In Divinity Original Sin 2, players encounter various Source Masters during Act II, each offering unique paths to expand their magical power. Hannag, a powerful Lizard Portal Master, is one of the most memorable characters involved in this journey due to her complex moral choices and volatile combat encounters. Navigating her quest line requires a good understanding of where to locate her, how to handle the local Magister presence, and what choices yield the best outcomes for your party.

Where to Find Hannag in Reaper's Coast

Hannag is located in the Cloisterwood region of Reaper's Coast, positioned near ancient ruins west of Driftwood. When you first approach her position, you will find her cornered by Magisters who are attempting to execute her. Players must quickly decide whether to intervene on her behalf or side with the Divine Order soldiers.

Intervening to protect Hannag triggers an intense battle against the surrounding Magister squad. Taking the high ground early in this area is crucial because environmental hazards and enemy range attacks can rapidly overwhelm an unprepared party. Once the threat is cleared, Hannag moves to a higher platform within the ruins to speak with you.

Completing Her Quest Line and Saving Gwydian

To gain Hannag's favor, she tasks the Godwoken with saving her apprentice, Gwydian Rince, who is trapped in the Blackpits. This leads to the On the Ropes questline, which culminates in one of the game's most challenging oil and fire battles. Rescuing Gwydian requires careful position management and protective spellcasting to keep him alive through waves of Voidwoken.

After securing Gwydian's safety, you can return to Hannag in the Cloisterwood to complete her task. She will express her gratitude and offer to teach you how to channel additional Source energy. However, accepting her offer comes with a distinct lore consequence that players should carefully consider beforehand.

Consequences of Learning Source from Hannag

If you choose to accept Source training from Hannag, she uses a forbidden method that infuses your character with energy drawn from nature. This action results in the immediate death of nearby woodland creatures across the Cloisterwood area. Additionally, the character receiving the training will permanently lose the Pet Pal talent if they currently have it equipped.

Players who wish to avoid this drawback can still complete her quest line to gain experience points without taking her Source training. Since other Sourcerers across Reaper's Coast can expand your Source points, you are not forced to compromise your character build or moral standing. Alternatively, players can choose to fight Hannag for high experience rewards and valuable skill books.

Choosing the Best Path for Your Party

Selecting the best outcome with Hannag largely depends on your party's roleplay preferences and character builds. Players running characters with the Pet Pal talent should generally refuse her Source power or speak to her using a party member who lacks the talent. This ensures you keep your talent points intact while still reaping the benefits of quest completion.

If you prefer to maximize experience points, assisting her initially and resolving the encounter through combat after receiving rewards is a popular route among experienced players. Whatever choice you make, managing your interactions with Hannag effectively provides a great boost to your progression in Act II.
